King for a Day

King for a Day

I wanted to include a manly card in my card class this week.  I guess polka dots can be manly — if they use manly colors, right?

I embossed the crown with pewter embossing powder.  And I didn’t use any ribbon or doilies.  Definitely manly!

Enjoy your Tuesday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Blossom Bouquet

Blossom Bouquet

I’m always drawn to floral sets.  This set, Secret Garden, has some great images with which to play.  And the matching framelits make it easy to layer on the pretty flowers.

I feel like I’ve barely used the pretty papers in the Print Poetry dsp stack, so that was my starting point with this card.  I added Dazzling Details for the flower centers.  I always forget about that stuff, but I love it!  I need to keep it sitting out on my desk so I can see it.

Enjoy your Monday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Secret Garden, Bloomin’ Marvelous
Ink:  Basic Black, Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals, Summer Starfruit
Paper:  Whisper White, Gumball Green, Basic Black, Print Poetry dsp stack

Blue Creped Flower — PP134

Are you ready for another sketch challenge at the Paper Players today?  Well, Jaydee has a good one for us.

I wanted to play with the creped filter paper that Stampin’ Up! has in the Spring catalog some more.  When I attended the Dallas regional last weekend, someone shared a great tip on how to use it with a punch.  Rather than just punching the creped paper with the punch, you need to add a piece of card stock behind the creped paper before punching.  It adds a little stability and will allow the paper to punch cleanly.  You can even punch through multiple layers at once.  You don’t have to add the card stock with a die — just with a punch.

For the flower, I punched eight layers of the creped paper and then used a sponge dauber and Midnight Muse ink to dye the flower.  Once dry, I scrunched up the layers and pierced a brad through the center, and then covered the brad with a punched circle and resin dahlia.

I hope you can find time to join in and participate in the challenge this week.  Here are links to the other designers, so you can see how they interpreted the sketch.

Enjoy your Sunday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Felt Flower

felt flower

Here’s a super simple layout for you today.  I love using felt with my dies, especially to make flowers.  I used some white felt to make the petals with the Flower Folds Bigz XL die.

I’ve also been loving Basic Gray the last few months.  I think it looks great paired with Calypso Coral, what do you think?

Enjoy your Saturday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Simple Swap Card

Here’s a look at the last swap card I made for the Dallas Regional event.  I didn’t make many of these (just 18), as I knew I would quickly tire of fussy-cutting the flowers.  This card has such a simple layout, but I like how it turned out.

Madison Avenue Swap

This one would be easy to stick in an envelope and mail.

Dallas Regional Make & Takes

Stampin’ Up! had some really cute make & take projects for us at the regional event this past Saturday.  They all featured two stamp sets called Clockworks and One in a Million.  I’ve had the Clockworks set on my wish list for quite a while, but just haven’t bought it as it’s different from my normal style.  I did have a lot of fun using it at the regional event though…

Regional Note pad 2

This first project is a notepad cover.  They gave us a plain white 4″ x 6″ notepad, and we covered it with the embellished gray card stock cover.  We scored the Basic Gray card stock first at 1/4″ intervals (it was supposed to be 1/2″ intervals, but I never can follow make & take instructions well).  The flower was supposed to be on the left hand side, but I needed to cover a mistake, so I switched it around.  I love these colors together – – Gumball Green More Mustard, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Basic Gray.

Regional Card

This is the card we made.  We used the spritzers to mist a mixture of rubbing alcohol and Gumball Green ink refill on the card base.  We made a mask for the white panel and sponged Gumball Green ink over the mask to make the circles and green border.

Regional Box

This last project is a little box of notecards, made using the Two Tags Bigz Die.  Here’s a picture of the little notecards:

I hope you enjoyed the little peeks at some of the stamping from the Dallas regional event.  Enjoy your Thursday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Lots of Swaps

One of the fun things about attending any Stampin’ Up! event is swapping.  I received some great swaps while at the Dallas regional event this past Saturday.  Today I’m going to share some of them with you (I have permission to do this from their creators).  If they have a blog, I made a link to their site so you can go check out their other work.

Happy Birthday — Crossword Style

Crossword Swap

Here’s another card I made for a Stampin’ Up! regional event.  I am very blessed to be in a great downline group that is fun and makes great swaps.  We had a great turnout for the event since so many of us are in Texas and Oklahoma.  I designed this card before I knew what our final count would be, so I was a little shocked when I saw that 44 of us had signed up.

Crossword Swap Group

Yikes — that’s a lot of the same card to make!  I ended up not doing the sewing at the top of the banners on the cards.  It was just too much — by that point I was so tired of looking at these cards. 🙂

Tickets of Thanks

I’d mentioned in a previous post that I was attending the Stampin’ Up! regional event in Dallas on Saturday.  As usual, Stampin’ Up!  put on a great event!  There were great demonstrations, tips, and stamping.  And of course there was swapping!  Here is one set of  swaps I made for the day.  I made 28 of them, and I’ll be happy to not use my paper piercer again for a while.  🙂
