It’s a Dahlia Day

I got my order of new catalog items and had a little time to play with it today.  One of the stamp sets at the top of my wish list was the Regarding Dahlias set.  Not only do I love the floral image (I’m such a sucker for floral images), but I love the sentiments as well.  They will be well used I’m sure.

Dahlia Day

I stamped the dahlia on watercolor paper with Calypso Coral ink, and then took my watercolor brush and Crisp Cantaloupe ink and colored in the petals.  I then just used some water in my brush to dilute the colors a bit and blur the image slightly.  I then applied Dazzling Diamonds on top.  I used another stamp set, Gorgeous Grunge, to make the splatters.

Enjoy your Saturday!  I am one project away from being finished with my convention display samples (23 down, and just one to go).   Then I need to take pictures of them all so I can share them with you after convention next month.  Whew!  It will be such a relief to box them all up and ship them to Utah.

A Wagon Full of Birthday Wishes

Wagon Full of Birthday Wishes

I tell you — this Gingham Garden dsp just makes me happy.  I love the patterns, and the colors are so bright and cheery.  I hadn’t watercolored in a long time, so I pulled out one of the few sets I still have which are made for watercoloring.  I used a blender pen and my ink pads to do the coloring.

Blooming Cantaloupe — FMS89

It’s Wednesday, and the very talented Rita Wright has a very fun sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches:

Banners and baker’s twine — what’s not to love?  I decided to play with another new in-color tonight — Crisp Cantaloupe.  I’ve decided that I really like it paired with Calypso Coral.  I also added Baked Brown Sugar to the mix for this card.

Best Friends

I’m still playing with some of the new colors.  I had some Coastal Cabana on my desk from yesterday, so I decided to try some other combinations that go with that color.  The Color Coach suggested Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate, and since I love both of those colors, I thought the combination sounded great.

So after figuring out my color scheme, I had to figure out what stamps to use and a sketch as well.  I popped on over to the Retro Sketches site and decided to use their sketch this week:

Summertime Refreshments — PP

Jaydee has a fun theme challenge for us over at the Paper Players this week:

I’m ready for a Summer holiday, how about you?  My kids have four more days of school, and then we’ll be celebrating Summer in our household.  Yippee!  I love having them home for the summer.

I was kinda stumped by this theme for a little while.  I don’t have any beach or pool themed stamps.  Nor do I have any sunglasses stamps nor flip-flops stamps.  I wasn’t sure what to do.  But then I focused on colors, and I knew I wanted to use Coastal Cabana and Strawberry Slush (the names are summery, right?).  And the Strawberry Slush made me think of a summery drink, and then I thought of using the Happy Hour stamp set.  Oh, the way the mind works!

Summertime Drinks

When I made this I was picturing a Strawberry daiquiri and a Margarita.  Sounds good!

Some of you have asked me to show the inside of my cards.  Well, there isn’t usually much to show as I don’t often do anything on the inside.  I feel lucky to get the outside finished on most days.  But I love the sentiments that come with this set, and decided to finish the inside on this one.

Summertime Drinks Inside

I hope you can join us at the Paper Players this week!  Meanwhile, take a look at what the rest of this team did with this sketch:
