A Fall-Themed Thinking of You Card

When I saw the sketch challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary, I knew I had to play along. It has a big bow, and I love big bows!

I’m still enjoying making Fall-themed cards as I love these colors so much. So I pulled out a couple of Fall stamp sets. And my favorite ribbon for making big bows is the 3/4″ chevron ribbon, so I had to use that too.

Are there any trick-or-treating plans for your evening? I have a Catwoman daughter and Batman dog that are so ready to go (not really sure about how excited the dog is to dress up though). I also have a Hogwarts student (Harry Potter’s school) that can’t wait to dress up. It’s always so fun!

Four Pansies — FMS110

It’s Wednesday again! And that means we have another sketch for you over at Freshly Made Sketches! Our hostess this week is Rita Wright, and besides having one of the cutest toddlers, she is also a very talented stamper. Here’s her sketch:

This one was challenging for me. I always have a hard time with sketches like this, where there are multiple small boxes or circles. I hadn’t used the Flower Shop stamp set in a while, so I pulled it out. I embossed the flowers with white embossing powder on Calypso Coral card stock, and then I embossed the sentiment with black embossing powder on vellum card stock. Very simple.

Using Some Old Favorites

I really love the sketch over at CAS(e) This Sketch this week, so I decided I needed to play along.

I don’t have any airplane stamps, so I decided to pull out a hot air balloon stamp from one of my favorite “old” stamp sets, “You’re Amazing.” I used this set so much last year, and this year not so much. But I still love it! I also pulled out some “old” washi tape, and I must say that I still love the This and That Epic Day collection of products. It’s fun to pull out some old favorites every now and then.

Gold Snowflake Joy

I wanted to play with the Festive Flurry bundle, and I really wanted to use the color combination of red, white and gold, but I couldn’t decide whether I should use the gold embossing powder on the snowflakes or the pretty gold glitter. So I used both.

I added a little strip of the gold foil sheets under the dsp. I love the effect that adds. I also dipped the Frosted Finishes Embellishment in Versamark and then embossed it with the Gold Stampin’ Emboss powder. That was easy and it gave the embellishment such a different look.

My Baby Is 9

My baby is celebrating her 9th birthday today. My, where does the time go? She is having her birthday party next weekend, but we’ll celebrate with her today as a family. She told me the only thing she wants is a microphone, and if she gets anything else she’d like to exchange it for a microphone. Her brother and sister are less than excited about the prospect of her having a microphone — they think she’s loud enough without one. 🙂

I think this is a fun mix of colors. I used Brushed Silver card stock for the embossed frame. I always forget about that stuff, but it is so pretty.

Polka Dot Christmas Wishes

I love polka dots. So it should be no surprise that I love the Season of Style dsp collection. There are a three great polka dots patterns in there.

This was an easy card to put together. I used the Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss powder for the sentiment. I love that special touch.

Something Soft and Pretty

I felt like making something soft and pretty yesterday, just for the fun of it. I grabbed the sheet from the Etcetera dsp package with the soft houndstooth pattern, and went from there. I ended up pulling the Regarding Dahlias set off my shelf because I haven’t used it in a while and I love this set. I also used some other well-loved products that I haven’t used in a while — the Tea Lace doilies, Pool Party Seam Binding Ribbon and the Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons. With all of these pretty things, the card practically assembled itself! 🙂

Ho Cubed — FMS109

It’s Wednesday, and that means a new sketch challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches! And this week, Jen Mitchell, who makes such beautiful CAS cards has a fun one for us:

I almost feel like I cheated on this challenge. Stampin’ Up! has these cute little tags in the Holiday catalog called the Season of Style Designer Journaling Tags. I think they’re really made for scrapbooking, but they look so cute on cards too. I stamped the Ho cubed and punched it out with a circle punch, and that was all of the stamping on this card. See what I mean about cheating?

A CAS Masculine Birthday Card

I was intrigued by LeAnne’s challenge over at The Paper Players this week:

This sounded hard to me — not because it’s CAS, but because it’s masculine. The only thing harder would be lots of layers and masculine. Whenever I need to make a masculine card, I default to CAS.

I went with a guy-friendly color palette — orange, blue, and gray. And I forced myself to not use any ribbon nor buttons. But I still added some fun embellishments with the candy dots and cute clips.

Same Technique, Same Sketch, Two Different Cards — Monday Montage #5

I have been wanting to play with a technique I first saw a few months ago — using stencils and fiber paste. I’m sure this technique has been around for a lot longer than that, but that’s when I first saw it. Another stamper, Mona Pendleton, uses this technique to perfection, and I love her style. Her style is totally different than mine — she uses lots of mixed media products and is able to incorporate so many beautiful elements onto each scrapbook page and card. Each of her creations is like a work of art.

I bought a jar of fiber paste at a big box craft store and decided to play around with it using the stencils from the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit. I made two cards last night using the same sketch.

On the first card, I just scooped out some of the fiber paste onto the stencil and spread it out with a popsicle stick. After the paste dried, I embellished the rest of the card.

I wanted it to have a rough and uneven texture, so I didn’t smooth it out completely. Here’s a closer view of the fiber paste:

For the second card, I wanted to see how the fiber paste would look if I added ink and colored it. I just mixed a scoop of the paste and three drops of Tempting Turquoise re-inker in a small cup, and then spread it on the stencil.

I love how you could easily make any color of fiber paste you like. It was really simple and fun. Here’s a closer look at the paste on this one:

When I try this again next time (there will definitely be a next time), I think I’ll apply a thicker layer of the paste and see how that works.
