A Touch of Ink Hummingbird — FMS474

It’s time for another new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! Our hostess this week is the talented and lovely Judy Rozema. Take a look at this fun sketch:

This is the last week of Sale-a-Bration! Since I hadn’t gotten the A Touch of Ink stamp set inky yet, I decided I’d better hurry up and use it. I love hummingbirds and I’m drawn to hummingbird stamps. But when it comes to coloring them, I feel like a failure — a frustrated failure. I think it’s because they are so gorgeous and colorful in real life and it’s hard to capture that with ink and paper.

I stamped and colored this bird several times using different techniques and then just went with watercoloring because it’s the most forgiving. I sponged on a little Rococo Rose ink onto the card base because I have a fear of too much white space. I probably wouldn’t do that again, but after spending so much time coloring different hummingbirds I was out of time and needed to finish up so I didn’t redo that panel. Sometimes, you just have to call it a day and let it go. 🙂

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch! We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week. Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration!

Enjoy your Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by!
