A Sympathy Card Lesson

My thirteen-year-old daughter and I were both saddened to read in the church bulletin that one of her favorite former teachers at school had recently lost her father.  I thought it was time for my daughter to learn how to write a sympathy card.  I think that sympathy cards are often the hardest ones to write, especially if one didn’t personally know the deceased.  We talked about what kinds of things are usually written in these cards and how to personalize them.  I was so proud of her for wanting to learn this.

sympathy lessonI pulled a favorite set, Choose Happiness, which I haven’t used in a while off the shelf.  The sentiment is from a hostess set, Bloom with Hope.

A Thank You Bird

MIL Thank YouI needed to make a thank you card for my MIL, and since she is a big bird lover I knew I wanted her card to have a bird.  That gave me an excuse to use one of my favorite stamp sets, Choose Happiness.

MIL Thank You Close UpI used a color scheme of Rich Razzleberry, Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon and Night of Navy.

My daughter and I are off to help 30 volunteers stamp away this morning.  It is Make a Difference Day, and we are coordinating an event for the Visiting Nurses Association.  They want 300 cards for their hospice patients, so I have been busy planning all of the cards and cutting all of the card stock.  The volunteers will be doing the stamping and assembly.  It will be fun to see it all come to completion this morning.

Choose Fall Happiness

Choose Happy FallI was in the mood to make a collage-style card yesterday, so I pulled out one of my favorite sets for that style, Choose Happiness.  I decided to use some Fall colors with it to be a bit different.  Cajun Craze, Mossy Meadow and Blackberry Bliss were what I ended up using, mainly because I wanted to use some washi tape too.  I threw in some little bits of black as well.

Choose Happy Fall Close UpThe sentiment comes from the sentiment set, And Many More.  The splatters are from Gorgeous Grunge.

When I Need a Friend — Monday Montage #27

Monday Montage Banner -- October

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., but we’ve been at work making projects to share, as we do every two weeks.  There are ten of  us participating, so just work your way through all of the blogs by clicking on the “Next” buttons at the end of each post.

When I Need a FriendI used the Choose Happiness stamp set and stamped onto some of the Typeset dsp.  The little strip of blue dsp is from the Flashback dsp stack.

When I Need a Friend Close UpI am sandwiched in this blog hop between two ladies who are not only super stampers but are also super athletes.  Both Breelin Renwick and Wendy Weixler ran a half marathon this morning at Disneyland.  Way to go, ladies!  Just click on the “Next” button to venture on to Breelin Renwick’s blog, or you can work your way backwards starting with Wendy Weixler’s blog.

Choose Blackberry Bliss

You may or may not know that while I love the color purple, I have an aversion to stamping with it.  I don’t know why.  Sometimes things like this just aren’t logical and can’t really be explained.  So while I know many of you fell totally in love with the new color Blackberry Bliss when the new In-Colors were revealed a couple of months ago, I secretly thought, “Uh-oh.  Another purple.”

But I’m trying to overcome my purple phobia.  I think Blackberry Bliss is a gorgeous color, and I am determined to use it.  Don’t you have a color that strikes fear in your heart when you see it in a color challenge or need to use it for a certain project?  Surely I’m not the only one.

choose blackberry happinessI recently got the new set, Choose Happiness, and wanted to ink it up.  I started with some of the Typeset dsp, which I painted with a layer of gesso, and then spritzed with some Blackberry Bliss ink.  The dsp is from the Park Lane dsp pack.

choose blackberry happiness close upI think this stamp set has such pretty images.  I chose some and created a bit of a collage with the stamps and embellishments.  I think this will be a fun set with which to play around.

Enjoy your Monday.  Thanks for stopping by!
