A Pastel Birthday Cake — FMS427

In the midst of all the craziness in the world right now, I’m glad to have some things remain the same.  And one thing that is consistent right now is a new sketch on Wednesdays at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our sketch comes to us all the way from Australia, where our resident Artisan award-winning crafter, Narelle Farrugia, has a clean and simple sketch for us.  Take a look:

Needing to restock the birthday cards supply, I pulled out the Happy Birthday to You stamp set, which is a Sale-a-Bration offering.  I love that it also has a coordinating die set, Birthday Dies.  Since Spring is just about here, I pulled out some soft pastel colors.

I tend to shy away from purples, but for some reason I’ve been drawn to them lately.  In fact, this is the second card in a row that I’ve made using them.  I colored the cake and flowers with markers and used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  The pretty yellow scalloped border is from the Flourish dies.  The dsp is from the Best Dressed dsp collection

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you create as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Sale-A-Bration Birthday Cake — Monday Montage #156

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  We are a group of stampers who love to share what we create with you, and all you have to do to follow along is click on the links at the bottom of each post.

I needed to make a birthday card so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to ink up one of the new Sale-a-Bration stamp sets, Happy Birthday to You.  I think the flowers on this cake are just gorgeous and I knew they would be fun to color.

I started by stamping the cake image twice onto Thick Whisper White Cardstock with Memento black ink.  On one image I colored the flowers and on the other image I colored the cake.

On February 4, Stampin’ Up! will offer a Coordination Product Release, which will include some new products that will coordinate with a few of the mini catalog and Sale-a-Bration catalog products.  One of these offerings will be a set of dies that coordinate with the Happy Birthday to You stamp set in the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  I used three of these dies on this card.

I die-cut the flowers from one of the cakes I had stamped and die cut the other cake with another die.  I then die-cut the cake stand from some silver foil card stock using a third die.

I placed the die-cuts on a card base that was lightly sponged with some Balmy Blue ink.  A strip of dsp from the Sale-a-Bration Golden Honey Specialty DSP pack was added along the side.

You’re ready to hop on over to Breelin Renwick’s blog.  I always love seeing what she makes!  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can jump back to Wendy Weixler’s blog.  Either way, be sure to work your way through all of the blogs so you don’t miss a thing.
