Stars and Plaid — FMS411

These Wednesdays are flying by!  We are marching right towards Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.  Fortunately, we have a new sketch every week at Freshly Made Sketches to help you with your card making for these occasions.  And this week our hostess is the incredible Kim Singdahlsen, who has a great sketch for us.  Take a look:

I made another card for the Christmas card stash.  I love the So Many Stars bundle, as not only is this set perfect for Christmas, but I love to use stars for birthdays, graduations, and other occasions.  Very versatile!

I started by embossing the star with gold embossing powder and cutting it out with one of the coordinating stitched stars dies. I added a little green rhinestone from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels collection.

The dsp has pretty gold accents and is from the Wrapped in Plaid dsp collection.  I mounted it on some gold foil paper.  Some tiny little Snowflake Sequins were added as embellishments, as was a strip of striped ribbon.

The sentiment from the Christmas Gleaming stamp set was stamped with Night of Navy ink.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Fall Floral Essence — FMS410

Wednesdays bring new sketches over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our stamping friend from up-state New York with a fun sense of humor, Linda Callahan, is our hostess.  Take a look at this great sketch:

As I mentioned in my previous post, I had been making some thank you cards and was experimenting with Fall colors with floral stamp sets.  For my card today, I have used the Floral Essence stamp set.

I stamped these flowers with Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry inks.  The leaves were stamped with Pear Pizzazz ink.  I then cut all of them out with my paper snips, because while this stamp set does have a coordinating punch, I didn’t use the flower with which the punch coordinates.  I guess it’s a good thing I find fussy cutting to be therapeutic (at least when I have the time to do it).

I embossed the background layer with the Subtle embossing folder.  The dsp is from the Come to Gather dsp collection.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Snow Front Scene — FMS408

Another Wednesday has arrived, which means it’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.  And this week, our talented pilot friend, Jennifer Timko, is our hostess.  Take a look at this great sketch:

This sketch is so versatile.  I think you could do just about anything with it.  I decided to pull out a new stamp set that I have been itching to ink up, Snow Front.  I grew up hating art class in school.  I couldn’t draw or paint at all and I really thought I had no artistic ability at all.  But then I discovered stamping about twenty years ago, and now I know that you don’t have to have any drawing talent to be artistic.  We can create little works of art with our stamps.  And this set is perfect for that!

This set has such fun images with which to play.  I only used a few of them, and I’m looking forward to using the others now.

There are no sentiments in this set, so I used one from the Christmas Gleaming set.  I like the pop of color the red sentiment strip adds.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Spooky Jars — FMS407

It’s Wednesday again, and that means it’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches!  And this week out hostess is the ever talented Lee Ann Barrett.  Take a look at this fabulous collage-style sketch:

I wanted to make a Halloween themed card for a care package I will be sending off to one of my college kids, and when I saw the sketch I immediately thought of the cute little jars on one of the sheets in the Monster Bash dsp collection.  I cut a few of the various jars out using my paper snips and arranged them around the sentiment piece.

I die-cut one of the cool frames in the Ornate Frames dies collection from black card stock and embossed the sentiment with some old Crushed Curry embossing powder.

For the background I blended some Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie inks onto a piece of white card stock and then splattered some Terracotta Tile ink over it.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Plaid Wishes — FMS406

It’s already Wednesday again, and that means it’s time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week, our hostess is the very talented Jacquie Southas, and she has a great sketch for us.  Take a look:

Now that it’s October, I decided I should probably get started making Christmas cards.  For the collage in the bottom corner of the card, I thought the trees in the Perfectly Plaid stamp set would work well.

I started the card with a piece of dsp from the Wrapped in Plaid collection.  I then stamped the trees with Versamark ink and embossed them with gold embossing powder.  They were punched out with the coordinating Pine Tree punch.

The sentiment is from the Word Wishes die collection and was cut from some gold glimmer paper.  A little bit of scrap ribbon was used behind the trees as an embellishment.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Copper Tipped Leaves — FMS405

It’s time for another new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  And this week our hostess is our talented friend, Judy Rozema.  Take a look at this fun sketch:

While I still had my Gather Together bundle out on my desk, I decided to make another card with it.  I thought the three leaves in the die set would work well for the three squares in the sketch.

I die cut the leaves from Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede and Cajun Craze card stock.  I then lightly rubbed parts of the leaves with some Versamark ink and then sprinkled on some Copper embossing powder.  The leaves were placed on a sheet from the same suite and some sequins were scattered as embellishments.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Gather Thanks — FMS404

It’s Wednesday and that means it’s time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  And this week it is my pleasure to serve as the hostess.

Fall is such a short season where I live.  Summer is LONG…  So even though it doesn’t feel like Fall here yet, I want to play with my Fall stamps.  I love Fall and all of the Fall products, so I guess I just need to light a pumpkin scented candle and turn the A/C down to make it even cooler in the house and maybe I can fool myself into feeling like it’s Fall.  😉

I started by die-cutting some leaves using the Gathered Leaves dies.  I took a tip from the Holiday catalog and spritzed my card stock with water before die-cutting the leaves.  I think it added a little depth and a little color variation.  I stamped the pumpkin from Gather Together with Cajun Craze ink and then colored it in with my alcohol markers.

The paper is from the Come to Gather dsp pack.  The card stock is Very Vanilla.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to see what the design team has created for your inspiration at the Freshly Made Sketches site.

Three Little Birds — FMS402

It’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our ink-blending and coloring pro, Karren Johnson, is our hostess.  Take a look at this fun sketch:

Since it is still hot as blazes here in Texas, I just can’t even look at my pretty Fall and Christmas stamps yet.  When I saw the circles in this sketch, I thought of those sweet little birds in the Bird Ballad Suite.  I got out my paper snips and cut some of them out.

I started out by sponging some Pool Party ink onto a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I then cut a strip of the pretty pink polka dot paper from the same dsp pack and mounted it on another piece of whisper white card stock that I had cut out using a scalloped die from the Stitched Be Mine dies collection.

I added a little baker’s twine and a few sequins, and called it a day.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

A Taste of Fall Pumpkin — FMS401

We had so much fun celebrating our 400th sketch at Freshly Made Sketches last month, and now it’s time to move along towards the next milestone.  And Cecile Ribon, our French stamper who is the queen of die-cutting, is our hostess this week.  Take a look at this fun sketch:

I had the latest Paper Pumpkin kit sitting on my desk, and when I looked at the contents, I thought they were made for this sketch.  This card came together in no time!

I started by stamping and embossing the circle image from Swirly Frames with clear embossing powder onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  It’s very subtle and you have to look closely to see it.  All of the remaining elements came directly from the Paper Pumpkin kit.  The vellum die-cuts are so petty.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you make as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

FMS Anniversary Celebration (You Don’t Want to Miss This) — FMS#400

We have been celebrating the Sketch #400 milestone at Freshly Made Sketches all month, and now we finally present sketch #400.  Take a look:

And to further celebrate this milestone, we have prizes!!  Several stamping companies have offered to donate prizes for this celebration, and you can see the list here:

I flew to Michigan this past weekend to move my Freshman daughter into her new dorm room.  Everything went well except for one mishap.  Since we decided to fly in rather than drive from Texas, we placed online orders at Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond for those items that we couldn’t fit in the suitcases.  After picking these items up in our rental car, we put them in those large blue Ikea bags to make it easier to carry them up to her dorm room.  Somehow a bottle of OxiClean spray came unscrewed and spilled all over everything in the Ikea bag.  We didn’t notice it until we had set the bag on the floor in her room.  When we unzipped the bag and pulled out the first item, we saw the mess, but not before it had soaked through the bag onto the floor.  What a mess!  We salvaged what items we could and then had to mop the floor, which was now super slippery and soapy.  She now has the cleanest floor in all of the Michigan dorms!

I hadn’t played with the Over the Moon stamp set in a while, and I needed to make something that would make me smile.  Dropping my second one off for college was just as hard as letting the first one go.  It seems so quiet at home now.  But she’s excited to be there and was already making friends when I left.  She’ll do great!

I colored the cow with my markers and used a piece of retired gingham paper.  I really need to order some more new dsp.  I just have so much retired paper that I haven’t used.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make and the prize winners will be chosen randomly from the Freshly Made Sketches gallery.  See the Freshly Made Sketches site for the details and rules, and while you’re there take a look at what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by!
