A Hand Delivered Birthday Cake — FMS376

We have a new sketch for you over at Freshly Made Sketches, and it come from half-way around the world.  Karren Johnson, our favorite New Zealand resident, has a simple and versatile sketch for us.  Take a look:

While the sketch may be simple, it definitely wasn’t easy for me.  All of that white space freaks me out!  I knew I wanted to make a birthday card and as I was perusing the sets on my shelf, I came across the Hand Delivered stamp set, which is a hostess set that I haven’t used in a few months.  I decided it was time to dust it off and have some fun coloring.

I started by stamping the images, coloring them with markers, and cutting them out by hand.  I then stamped the fun banners from the Pick a Pennant stamp set with Petal Pink ink, stamping off on a piece of scratch paper first to add a softer touch.

The sentiment is from the Well Said stamp set and coordinating framelits.

We hope you’ll join us and make your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what your create as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

A New Season — Monday Montage #133

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  We are a group of stampers who love to share what we create with you, and all you have to do to follow along is click on the links at the bottom of each post.

There are some new Sale-a-Bration offerings and one caught my eye right away.  It’s the Painted Seasons bundle.  I think it was really the coordinating dsp that truly caught my eye first (it’s lovely!), but the stamp set is beautiful too.  Plus, there are coordinating framelits that you can buy as well.

I started this card by stamping this pretty flower image with some Mango Melody ink three times, twice using the stamping-off technique.  I stamped the leaves with Old Olive ink and cut them all out.  The sentiment is from the Humming Along stamp set and was cut out using a die from the Rose Trellis Thinlits dies.

I placed the floral arrangement on a piece of the Painted Season dsp and added a few pearls for embellishment.  This bundle — the stamp set and dsp together are offered as a free Sale-a-Bration offering — is only available for the rest of the Sale-a-Bration period, which ends March 31 so you only have a few weeks left to get it.

You’re ready to hop on over to Breelin Renwick’s blog.  I always love seeing what she makes!  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can jump back to Wendy Weixler’s blog.  Either way, be sure to work your way through all of the blogs so you don’t miss a thing.

A Lacy Floral Valentine — FMS375

We have a new sketch for you over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our sketch comes from France and our sweet friend, Cecile Ribon, has a fun one for us.  Take a look:

I had one more Valentine that I needed to make, and this sketch was my starting point.  I just substituted hearts for the triangle shapes in the sketch.

I started by cutting out some hearts from the pretty All My Love dsp collection using dies from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits dies.  I then cut out some greenery using Soft Sea Foam card stock and the Foliage Frame Framelits dies.  A little bit of ribbon and a fun mulit-hearts die using some Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets were also added as accents.  The gorgeous Lace embossing folder was used for the card base.  I love the beautiful detail on this.  The sentiment is from an old Paper Pumpkin stamp set.

We hope you’ll join us and make your own card using the sketch.  We love to browse the gallery and look at all of the creations.  Meanwhile, be sure to check out the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Butterflies on My Mind — FMS374

It’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our Canadian friend, Jen Brum, who has an aversion/fear of circles has a new sketch for us.  And guess what is all over her sketch!?  Nothing like facing your fear head on, I guess.

Maybe it’s the taste of Spring-like weather we’ve had this week or maybe it’s just because I love butterflies, but I saw butterflies when I looked at this sketch (after several minutes).  And since I just got the new Butterfly Gala bundle, I knew just what to do with it.

I started by applying a wash of Balmy Blue ink on a piece of watercolor paper.  I then punched out some of the butterflies from two different sheets of the Botanical Butterfly dsp, which is a Sale-a-Bration offering.  One of the sheets (the one with the larger butterflies) has uncolored butterflies, so I colored them with markers.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We’d love to see what you make with all of those circles.  I think it will be a fun gallery this week!  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

A Piece of Cake for a Valentine Birthday — Monday Montage #132

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  We are a group of stampers who love to share what we create with you, and all you have to do to follow along is click on the links at the bottom of each post.  We have a couple of new stampers that are joining our group, so make sure you don’t miss them in the hop.

My middle child has a Valentine’s Day birthday.  When she was little all of her birthday parties had a heart theme, and life was so easy.  Then as she got to the pre-teen years, the heart theme lost its luster for her and she wanted separation from Valentine’s Day for her birthday.  Understandable.  However, for me, Valentine’s Day and her birthday will forever be linked.  This year she is turning 18 and will be graduating from high school, and she has started to embrace the connection of Valentine’s Day and her birthday again.  Yea!  So I am totally taking advantage of that with her card this year.

My daughter’s favorite kind of cake is strawberry cake (which fits the Valentine’s theme pretty well, doesn’t it?), so that is what I make every year.  When I used the new Piece of Cake stamp set, I knew I had to make the cake a strawberry cake.  I colored it with markers and added some Wink of Stella to the icing to add a touch of sparkle.

I added some Heart Epoxy Droplets and a pretty scalloped heart cut from white card stock using the Be Mine Stitched Framelits dies.  A frame cut from Gray Granite card stock was made using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits dies.

A Present for Your Birthday — FMS373

It’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our favorite Coloradan, Kim Singdahlsen, is our hostess.   She has a fun sketch for us.  Here’s a peek:

I needed to make some birthday cards, so I knew I wanted to use the Birthday Cheer stamp set.  I love the images in this set and I knew they’d be fun to color.

I colored the present with markers and totally goofed up when I made the strip that goes behind the focal image.  I cut a piece of polka-dot dsp from the Botanical Butterfly dsp collection, which is a Sale-a-Bration offering, with the intention of watercoloring three stripes of color on it — one in Bermuda Bay, one in Daffodil Delight, and one in Poppy Parade.  I had a long interruption between cutting it out and sitting down to color it, and I totally forgot my plan when I picked up my aquapainter.  I didn’t even realize I had forgotten my plan until I started this post and really looked at the sketch again.  Oops!

Be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team made, especially since they have all properly used the sketch this week.  And then make and post your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you create.

So Hop to It — FMS372

We have a new sketch for you at Freshly Made Sketches this week, and our friend from the land of snow and bone-chilling freezing temperatures (which would be anything below freezing for this Texas girl), Linda Callahan, is our hostess this week.  Take a look at this great sketch that she has for us:

One of the Sale-a-Bration sets I got was the So Hoppy Together set, which features some really cute frogs.  I wanted to make a card to encourage my daughter who has a bad case of senioritis (she’s a high school senior).  Her favorite color is yellow, so I had to include some of that color in her card.

I colored this image with my markers and placed it on a panel of Tropical Escape dsp.  The card base was made with the Dot to Dot embossing folder.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card with the sketch.  We love to see what you create as we browse the gallery each week. Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Home to Roost — Monday Montage #131

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  We are a group of nine stampers who love to share what we create with you, and all you have to do to follow along is click on the links at the bottom of each post.

Not that I have an affinity for roosters, but I was drawn to the Home to Roost stamp set in the Sale-a-Bration catalog because I knew it would be fun to color.  My grandparents had a farm in Kansas and I would spend my summers there as a child.  I learned quickly to keep my distance from the rooster.

Sure enough, this is a fun image to color.  I started by sponging on some Balmy Blue and Crumb Cake ink on a piece of whisper white card stock.  I then stamped the grass image a couple of times over it with some stamped-off Old Olive ink, and cut out a circle using the Stitched Shapes Framelits dies.

The rooster was stamped and colored with markers, and cut out by hand.  The sentiment comes from the Well Said bundle.  The embossed background was made with the Corrugated embossing folder.

Mother’s Day Tea — FMS371

It’s time for another new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our hostess is our friend from the great state of Massachusetts (who will be cheering on those New England Patriots this weekend, I’m sure), Jen Mitchell.  She has a great one for us too:

I love square cards, but rarely think to make one, so I was excited to see one in this sketch.  One of the fabulous offerings in Sale-a-Bration this year is the coordinating dies for the Tea Together stamp set, which is offered in the Occasions catalog.  You can get the stamp set in the Occasions catalog and then get the framelits for free with a qualifying order.  I love this set even though I’m not a tea or coffee drinker, and I knew it would be fun to color.  I love how the tea pot and cup are large enough to stamp images on.

I stamped the image with Memento black ink and lightly colored it with alcohol markers.  The paper is from the Tea Room dsp package and the little scallop border is from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits.

I know it’s a little early for a Mother’s Day card, but the sentiment just fit so perfectly and I thought it would be great to actually be ahead for once and have a card ready.  Of course, I’ll still be scrambling to get the other one I’ll need ready to mail in time.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you create as we browse the gallery every week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Thank You for All That You Are — FMS370

We are ready with another new sketch for you at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our well-traveled stamping friend, Jennifer Timko, is our hostess.  She has a great one for us too.  Take a look:

There are a lot of similar products on the card I made for this challenge and the card I shared on my previous post.  While I still had everything on my desk, I saw what I wanted to do with the sketch and rather than put it away and search for something else, I decided to go with it.  So here’s another card using the All That You Are stamp set and Gingham Gala dsp.

I started by stamping the flowers with Versamark ink and embossing them with clear embossing powder.  I love how these shades of pink work together — Calypso Coral, Grapefruit Grove, and Petal Pink.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you make and how you use the sketch.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by!
