Simple Sewn Season Greetings

Iced in here another day. The kids don’t have school again today. Yikes! I don’t know how those of you who live up North do it. My creative mojo has been frozen over as well. I’ve had more time to craft the past four days than ever, and I can’t do it. Nothing is coming to me — I just want to cuddle up by the fire with a cozy blanket, and snuggle with the kids and dog all day. I did sit down at my desk and force myself to make something yesterday. I thought if I could just make one thing, it would get the creative juices flowing and I could get more done. Didn’t work. But here is what I did make.

It’s a very simple card, and I’ve used a bit of an unconventional color scheme for a Christmas card. I even pulled out my little sewing machine.

O Holy Night

Well, we’re still iced in here (since Thursday evening), and I’m starting to get a touch of cabin fever. It would be nice to at least see the sun again. You would think I’ve been getting a lot of crafting done, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. I helped my third grader with a big project she has due at school tomorrow, and got several loads of laundry done and a few other chores completed yesterday. Maybe today I can spend more time crafting.

Here’s a simple card that I did have time to complete. I love this O Holy Night stamp. I still need to try it with the chalkboard technique. Hmmm….maybe that should be on my list for today.

Baby Elephant Congratulations

I needed to make a baby card, and I really love this week’s Deconstructed Sketch so I decided to use it for the baby card.

Deconstructed Sketch No. 129

I love the Zoo Babies set and don’t get to use it enough, so I knew that I wanted to use it for this card. I also used the super fun Alphabet Press embossing folder.

I know it’s a bit of an unconventional color scheme for a baby card, but I like doing that.

We are iced in here. The kids got to miss school yesterday, and it is so cold here that I’m not sure when this stuff will melt. I just feel so blessed that we didn’t lose our electricity, as so many around here did. I hope you are safe and warm wherever you are!

My Christmas Banner

I decided I needed a new banner for our fireplace this Christmas but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time making it, so I knew I needed to keep it simple. Punches and dies to the rescue!

I started by cutting out some of the red and white striped paper from the Season of Style DSP stack into the pennant shapes. Then I die cut one of the snowflake shapes using the Festive Flurry framelits and the Champagne Glimmer Paper. I punched a 1-3/4″ circle using my circle punch and white card stock. Then I die cut the letters from Cherry Cobbler card stock using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz dies.

For the banner between the two words, I made a decorative snowflake using some Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and Cherry Cobbler ink. I also added a Vintage Faceted Designer Button.

All in all, it took me about one and a half hours to assemble the whole thing. Pretty easy!

Starry Wishes — FMS114

It’s Wednesday, and the super talented and very lovely, Jennifer Timko has a great sketch for us over at Freshly Made Sketches:

This is such a nice, simple sketch. You can really use your creativity or you can keep it nice and simple and strictly follow the sketch.

I decided to use a non-Christmas themed stamp set on a Christmas card for my sample. I pulled out my Simply Stars set and stamped three of the stars. We have a star on the top of our tree, so I think of stars as having a Christmas theme. What about you? Do you have a star or an angel on the top of your tree? Or something else?

I added some sequins (I know — I’m addicted) and trimmed some Silver Foil paper with a fun blade on my Stampin’ Trimmer. This was really a pretty easy card to make.

Lots of Birthday Candles — Monday Montage #8

It’s time for another Monday Montage blog hop! There are ten of us that participate in this hop, so at the bottom of this post there will be a link to the next blog and you can follow the links all the way through.

I decided to make a little birthday ensemble — a card and small sack to hold a small gift or gift card. I used the Birthday Candles wheel to make all of the candles. I stamped them with Versamark ink and then used clear embossing powder with which to emboss them. My color palette includes Pink Pirouette, Strawberry Slush, Aqua Mist, and So Saffron.

I added sequins to the card and a sentiment from Four You.

I used a little plain, white paper sack for the gift and some Crushed Curry 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon (which blends in really well with the So Saffron ink on the sack). I also used the Numbers wheel along the bottom.
