One Down and the Rest to Go — FMS303

It’s time for another sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches today, and this week the New Zealand stamper extraordinaire, Karren Johnson, is our hostess. Take a look at this fun sketch that she has designed for us:

I have to say it has been hard to focus on stamping this past week with all of the horrible and devastating effects that Hurricane Harvey has had on our state.  While we have not had a drop of rain where I live in the DFW area so I have not been personally affected, I have found myself glued to the news stations and Facebook to check on friends who live in South Texas and my heart breaks for them.  I grew up in a small town in South Texas, not far from Rockport, where the hurricane landed.  We spent many days at the beach in Port Aransas.  It’s unbelievable to see what has happened to this area.  And then the incredible flooding in Houston has been so terrible for other friends.  I have friends who have lost homes, but I am so thankful that they are safe.  Wow!  What an unbelievable week!  If you have been affected, I am so sorry and I pray that you will find relief quickly.

Some of my fellow teammates have been showing beautiful Christmas cards all Summer, and I haven’t made a single one.  So I finally decided that I needed to get started and at least make one to get the ball rolling.  I don’t have any of the new sets yet, so I pulled out one that carried over to the annual catalog, Christmas Pines.  I tried to use the greenery as the star elements in the sketch and the pine cone as the triangle element.  Hmmm….I may have taken some creative liberties with this sketch.

I used a piece of the Wood Textures dsp stack and trimmed it with a bit of Cherry Cobbler card stock cut with the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch.

Eclectic Trio — FMS302

It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week we have one all the way from France, courtesy of our lovely friend, Cecile Ribon.  Take a look at what she has for us:

I love a good collage style sketch and this one is fun because all of the shapes are different and they’re large.  I started out by grabbing a die-cut flower from the May Flowers Framelits collection that I’ve had on my desk for a long time.  I didn’t use it on a project I made months ago and it has been patiently sitting on my desk waiting for a forever home.  I thought it would be great for the pink circle part of the sketch.  Then I thought some leaves would be great for the green triangle image, which spurred me to grab the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.  When I stamped the leaves with the coordinating Oh So Eclectic stamp set, I thought I might as well use one of the flowers from that stamp set since it was out (yeah — I’m lazy like that).  And there you go — I had my three shapes for the collage.

I stamped some splatters from Touches of Texture and some black + symbols from the Oh So Eclectic set in the background.  A bit of black baker’s twine and gold sequin trim were added as well.

Friendly Lemon — Monday Montage #99

Welcome to another Monday Montage blog hop!  We are a group of ten stampers who love to share what we create with you, and all you have to do to follow along is click on the links at the bottom of each post.

I haven’t done much stamping lately so I decided to make a simple card to get back into the stamping groove.  Another thing that often helps me is to use a sketch.  I like the one over at CAS(E) this Sketch, so I decided to go with it:

In keeping with my goal of simplicity, I decided to use some washi tape and scored some lines for the design elements in the sketch.  I also used a stamp set with a coordinating punch — doesn’t get much simpler than that!

The die-cut sentiment was cut from some Real Red card stock using one of the Lovely Words Thinlits dies.

Butterfly Sympathy — FMS301

Well, we’ve officially reached the end of Summer here in the O’Neill household.  We dropped my son off for his first year of college on Sunday and the girls started school this morning.  It has been a whirlwind these past couple of weeks!  But one thing that helps me keep my sanity is making some time to be creative, and making something with a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches is a great way to do that.  This week, our wonderfully kind and creative Canadian friend, Jen Brum, is our hostess.  Take a look at this great sketch:

I needed to stock up on some sympathy cards and I hadn’t used the Watercolor Wings stamp set in a while, so I decided to go that route.  I love this set and the coordinating dies, and I think they are perfect for almost any kind of card.

I started by sponging the top panel with some Powder Pink and Peekaboo Peach inks.  The butterflies were stamped with Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry inks.  Some pretty iridescent sequins and Peekaboo Peach baker’s twine were added as well.

The sentiment from Rose Wonder was embossed with gold embossing powder.

300 with Zest — FMS300

It’s time for another new sketch over at the Freshly Made Sketches site, and this week we are celebrating our 300th sketch challenge! Wow!  That’s a lot of sketches!  I feel like we just celebrated our 200th sketch, and now here we are at 300.  You don’t need to remind me that time flies.  My oldest is about to move over 600 miles away as he goes to college.  We are moving him into his dorm on Sunday. As I have been helping him pack all of the things he’ll be taking with him, I can’t help but wonder how we could be at this point in his life already.  I have shed some tears this week and I’m sure there will be plenty more shed as I make that 9 hour drive back home on Monday.  But he’s ready, even though I’m not.  Yep, time flies.

But back to our 300th Challenge.  We have a special prize for one lucky participant this week.  One random winner will receive all of the cards created by the design team using the sketch below.

I pulled out a stamp set I hadn’t used yet called Lemon Zest.  I love that it has a coordinating punch, which makes it so easy to use.  I paired it with some dsp and created a background with some embossing paste and a stencil.  You can see the supplies listed below.

I scooped out a little bit of embossing paste and mixed in one drop of So Saffron ink before spreading it over the stencil.  So easy!  And I love how quickly it dries.

Hooray It’s Your Day — FMS299

Well, hello August!  I’m not sure how that happened so quickly, but here it is.  It’s also time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches and this week our hostess is our favorite Coloradoan, Kim Singdahlsen.  Take a look at this fun sketch:

We just got back from a week-long family vacation and I needed to make something quick for this challenge.  So I went the easy route on this one.   I had the newest Paper Pumpkin kit on my desk so I opened it up and grabbed some of the items from it, which I used to fit the sketch.

I could always use some birthday cards, so I pulled out the wooden sentiment that fits with the birthday theme.  The stamps are from the stamp set that was included in the Paper Pumpkin kit.  I had planned on using the two washi tape rolls that were included in the kit, but I wanted something brighter against all of the white space, so I used a couple of other rolls that were in my washi tape basket.   I also placed some White Perfect Accents on the little stamped stars for fun.

Happy Birthday to one Who’s Lovely Inside & Out — Monday Montage #98

My hubby celebrated a birthday this past week.  And he got to celebrate in big fashion!  We went on a cruise.  Not really for his birthday though.  My oldest graduated from high school this summer and will be going out of state for college.  Since this could potentially be our last summer together as a family, we decided to start a tradition and allow the graduate to pick a summer vacation for the family (within reason, of course).   Cole picked a cruise to Spanish speaking countries.  He took five years of Spanish in school and plans to minor in it at college.  We had a fabulous time and I am so grateful that we could share it as a family.

Well, back to my husband’s birthday.  Here is the card I made for him:

I used the Lovely Inside & Out stamp set and the Happy Birthday Thinlits die to make this one.  I used the bright color combination of Dapper Denim, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Lemon Lime Twist.

I am still in love with the Patterns & Pieces suite.  It’s just so easy to make a cute card with these sweet images.

I used a color combination of Lemon Lime Twist, Calypso Coral, Night of Navy and Basic Black.

Feathery Friend — Monday Montage #97

The hostess sets in the annual catalog are really fabulous this year!  One of the sets that caught my eye is the Feathery Friends set.  It has images like those you’d find in an adult coloring book.  And since I love to color, I dropped this one in my cart.

I used a color scheme of Lemon Lime Twist, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Dapper Denim.  I colored the sweet little bird with Stampin’ Write Markers.

The diamond background pattern was made with some embossing paste which was dyed with some Pool Party re-inker.

This Little Piggy — FMS296

It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our friend who flies the friendly skies (and makes them much friendlier), Jennifer Timko, is our hostess.  Take a look at what she has for us:

A square card!  I love them and don’t know why I never think to make them.

One of my favorite sets in the new catalog is the This Little Piggy stamp set.  I hadn’t had the opportunity to use it yet, but I thought it would be perfect for this sketch.

This adorable little guy just makes me smile.  He is much cuter (and cleaner) than the pigs that were on my grandparents’ farm.  When I was a kid, I spent a good part of the Summer on their farm.  One of my chores often included feeding the pigs.  The little ones were pretty cute, but the big sows… not so much.  Their pen was enclosed by an electric fence, which always made me a little nervous when I had to step over it, especially when trying to balance two heavy buckets of feed and seeing several large, dirty, and hungry sows come running in my direction.

I stamped this image on watercolor paper and colored it with an aquapainter using Powder Pink ink and Blushing Bride ink for the nose.  I also used the Ruffled 3D embossing folder, which is so cool!

I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the card.  It says “Loves You.”
