Season of Leaves — FMS349

It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our friend who lives half-way around the world in New Zealand, Karren Johnson, is our hostess.  She has a simple and classic sketch for us this week.  Take a look:

With the girls headed back to school next week, I feel like Fall should be right around the corner.  That’s not quite true here in Texas, as we’re still a good 2-3 months away from that, but I can pretend as I stamp that Fall is almost here.

I love the die-cut leaves that are included in the Stitched Seasons Framelits dies, so I cut several out in different Fall colors and Gold Glimmer Paper.

I stamped part of the sentiment with Versamark ink and embossed it with gold embossing powder.  The remainder of the sentiment was stamped with Merry Merlot ink.  It’s so easy to do this and get perfect placement with the Stamparatus.

This bundle is only available this month while supplies last, so if you like it, don’t wait too long to get it.

Tropical Chic Squared — FMS348

August has arrived, and it has hit me that Summer is almost over in our household.  The girls go back to school in less than two weeks now, and my oldest goes back to his university in just a little over two weeks.  And I was just getting used to our Summer routine!  Well, time flies in the stamping world too.  It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our talented Canadian friend, Jen Brum, is our hostess.  She has a fun sketch for us.  Take a look:

I still had the Tropical Escape suite of products out on my desk from my last card, and while I was putting it away I thought that one of the dies would work with the sketch.  However it is ONE large square die, while the sketch has four.  But the one square has four leaves in it, so I thought I could take some creative liberties with the sketch.

I started by running five pieces of card stock through the Big Shot — one each of Shaded Spruce, Pineapple Punch, Lemon Lime Twist, Mango Melody, and Whisper White.  I then cut out the individual leaves with my paper snips and glued them onto the white die-cut.

A piece of Whisper White was embossed with the Subtle embossing folder (love that thing!) to add a linen-like look.  The sentiment was stamped with Shaded Spruce ink, which I had never used before and I have to say I really like this color.

Accented Thanks — FMS347

Are you ready for another new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches?  Well, ready or not, we have one for you.  And this week our hostess extraordinaire is our favorite Rocky Mountain resident, Kim Singdahlsen.  And she has a super versatile sketch for us.  Take a look:

I recently acquired a new stamp set, Accented Blooms, and I really wanted to use it.  I could kinda-sorta see how it could work with the sketch, so I decided to use it.  I think I stretched the sketch a little bit, but hopefully you can see the sketch in my card.

I started by sponging on a little Daffodil Delight ink onto my base layer.  On a sheet of Thick Whisper White cardstock, I stamped the focal image and colored it with Stampin’ Blends markers.  I then cut it out with my paper snips.  The sentiment was stamped with Calypso Coral ink, cut out, and placed on top of the floral image with a stampin’ dimensional.

I added some Gold Metallic Thread and Metallic Pearls as embellishments.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you create as we browse the gallery each week.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Cups of Happiness — FMS346

It’s Summertime and the days may be longer, but they sure do fly by!  We have another new sketch for you over at Freshly Made Sketches.  Our hostess this week, the ever-clever and oh-so-talented Linda Callahan, has a fun sketch for us.  Take a look:

I have been drawn to the Tea Room suite lately.  In fact, this was the first suite to go on my wish list when I first saw the new catalog.  And I don’t even drink tea.  And I can’t stand coffee.  I know…  I know…  Most of you can’t understand that and probably think there’s something wrong with me.  ha!

I thought the cute little teacups would work perfectly for the circle elements of the sketch, so that’s where I started.  I stamped them on watercolor paper and colored them with an aquapainter and ink pads.  I used a color scheme of Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight/Crushed Curry, and Coastal Cabana.

The cups were cut out with the coordinating framelits.  I love how the tea cup framelit cuts out the handle as well.

I embossed the background with the new Subtle embossing folder.  I love the bit of linen-like texture this adds.

The little flourish was stamped under the sentiment and embossed with copper embossing powder.  A strip of Tea Room dsp was added along the side, and some pearls were added as embellishments.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see your work as we browse the gallery and visit your blog.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

A Slightly Tilted Thanks — FMS345

Wednesdays bring new sketches over at the Freshly Made Sketches site, and this week Jen Mitchell has created a great sketch for us that I think will lead to some fabulous and diverse cards.  Here’s a look at the sketch with a fun, tilted panel:

With Stampin’ Up!’s current designer series paper promotion, I recently acquired some more pretty dsp.  And rather than hoard my favorite patterns, I am trying to use them.  This sketch provides a great opportunity to do just that.

Starting out with a sheet of dsp from the Share What You Love pack, which is not included in the Buy 3, Get 1 Free promotion (oops!), I added a sentiment from a previous Paper Pumpkin stamp set.  I LOVE the sentiments in this stamp set, and think this set alone was worth the price of that month’s kit, not including all of the rest of what was in it.  And Stampin’ Up! is now offering a 50% discount on your first month’s subscription of Paper Pumpkin.  Two great promotions going on this month — Paper Pumpkin and DSP!

I cut out some flowers from another sheet of the dsp and placed them around the sentiment.  The blue flower is shimmery and is so pretty in real life.  This was a quick and easy card to make.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you create as we browse the gallery.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Cheers to Tea Room DSP — FMS344

It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our talented French friend, Cecile Ribon, is our hostess.  She has a fun sketch for us.  Take a look:

This sketch had me stumped for a while.  I decided to start by finding some dsp to use, and reached for a pretty sheet from the Tea Room Specialty dsp pack.  Once I got it cut out I decided to let it be the star of the show because it is so pretty.

I almost had a monochromatic card, but when it was time to add the sentiment I felt like I needed another color to make it pop.  And once I went down that road, my chances for making a monochromatic card went out the window.  Maybe one day…

We hope you’ll join us and make your own card using the sketch!  We love to see what you create.  Meanwhile be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Happy Independence Day to all of my American friends!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Big Thank You — FMS343

It’s time for another new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our hostess is Jennifer Timko, who has an amazing talent with super clean design.  Her sketch lends itself to that style, but you can easily adapt it to any style.  It’s a great sketch!  Take a look:

I’m a sucker for great word dies, so when I saw the new Thank You Thinlits die, I knew it had to be on my first order.  It also has a great coordinating stamp set which has fabulous word stamps AND other great images as well.  I loved one of the samples in the catalog for this set, and that inspired me to make this card.

I have really been drawn to a new In Color called Grapefruit Grove.  It pairs with some of my other favorite colors beautifully, and it is so fresh and pretty.

The sentiment was cut from another new color, Balmy Blue.  I think I will get a lot of use out of this color too.

We hope you’ll join us and make your own card using the sketch.  We love to see your creativity as we browse the gallery and visit your blogs.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Hooray for Paper Pumpkin — FMS#342

It’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week I have the honor of hosting our challenge.  I have a simple sketch, but it is one with multiple layers.  I think it will be fun to see how everyone uses them.  Here’s a look at the sketch:

As soon as I got my newest Paper Pumpkin kit in the mail this week, I knew I wanted to use it for the sketch.  It seems like I rarely use these kits as designed, though I usually love the sample cards.  It is so fun to get this cute box of happy mail each month.  The kit this month coordinates with the Broadway Bound suite in the annual catalog.

Everything on this card comes from the kit.  The only exception is the card base, which I substituted for a plain Whisper White base.  I love the shiny gold sentiment (which I had a terrible time trying to photograph).

Tea Flowers — FMS341

It’s time for a new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, and this week our friend from down under, Narelle Farrugia, is our hostess.  Take a look at this great sketch:

Narelle has many paper crafting talents, but one that really stands out is her way with flowers.  When I saw the two circles in the sketch, I thought that flowers would work great.  I just got my box of new catalog goodies, and the stamp set at the top of my list was the Time for Tea stamp set.  This set has some pretty floral and greenery images, so I decided to use them.

I love this suite!  The coordinating dsp is beautiful — the colors and patterns are right up my alley.  And the coordinating framelits make these flower arrangements easy.

The sentiment is from the new A Big Thank You stamp set.  This will be another fun set with which to play.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch!  We love browsing the gallery and seeing what you make.  Meanwhile, be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.

Pretty Pens for a Fabulous Teacher — FMS340

It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our friend from half-way around the world in New Zealand, Karren Johnson, is our hostess.  Take a look at this fun sketch:

It is the last day of school for my girls, and one of our favorite teachers will be moving to a different school next year.  We are really sad and will miss her.  I wanted to make a card for her to write her a little note, and thought the pens in the Crafting Forever stamp set would be perfect.

I started with a card base made with Gray Granite card stock.  The pens were stamped with Memento black ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends markers.  I then cut them out with my paper snips and adhered them with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from an old Paper Pumpkin stamp set.

We hop you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  We love to see what you create!  Meanwhile, be sure to drop by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the design team has created for your inspiration.
