I needed a sympathy card for a friend of mine and I hadn’t used the Simply Sketched hostess set yet, so I decided to ink it up. I always forget how fun it is to watercolor. I should do it more often.

Hello to You

I thought I’d try to achieve a grunge-style look with this card. Notice all of the straight lines? Ha — I just can’t quite give them up! So here’s a modified grunge-look for one who likes a clean style. 🙂 I really don’t think the words “grunge” and “clean” go together — oh, well!

After I stamped the grid image, I sprayed some Melon Mambo ink mixed with rubbing alcohol using one of the Stampin’ Spritzers. All in all, this was a pretty quick and easy card.

Happy Independence Day Birthday!

I have always loved the 4th of July! We usually have a big family get-together at my grandmother’s house with lots of yummy food and fun games outside, and then sit in the backyard and watch fireworks that night. Plus, it’s my dad’s birthday, so we have another reason to celebrate. I always thought it would be so cool to have a birthday on the fourth because you’d always get to celebrate with fireworks.

I just got the Simply Stars stamp set and I thought it would be perfect for a manly Independence Day birthday card for my dad. If you still have the star punches that SU used to sell, you’ll be happy to know that they work with this stamp set.

I think this is a great all-around sketch! There are so many stamp sets that one could use with it — which kinda makes it hard, because then you have to choose just one. I decided to use Summer Silhouettes because it has been a little neglected as of late.

A Multi-layered Flower

It’s so quick to make multi-layered flowers like this one when you have punches to help you out. I used a watercolor brush and Crisp Cantaloupe ink to color some watercolor paper, which I punched out with the Pansy punch. I also used the new Dictionary background stamp to stamp Baked Brown Sugar ink on the Baked Brown Sugar card stock. The splatters come from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set. This is a note-card sized card — 3-1/2″ x 5″.

Last week was my last as a guest designer for the Paper Players. I don’t really have to worry about withdrawal too much though, as I still plan on participating in many of their challenges as a participant. A Secret Garden Thanks to the Best

Polka dots just make me happy! So do flowers. I hadn’t used my Secret Garden set in a while, so I pulled it out and paired it with this fun polka dot pattern from the I Am Me dsp pack. After cutting out the flowers with the coordinating framelits, I used some Dazzling Details to add sparkle to the centers. I also used some of the fun new Candy Dots around the leaves.

It’s another Fab Friday kind of day! This week we have a fun sketch challenge for you:

I knew right away when I saw the sketch that I wanted to make another Polaroid/Instagram style frame on this card. What threw me for a loop was the arrow. Then I remembered that the Hello, Lovely set has an arrow image. So then I knew what stamp set I wanted to use. But what to put in the frame? I decided to let some dsp be the star of the show, and I love the fun, bright colors on this pattern.
