A Kinda Eclectic Scrapbook Page

KE ScrapbookI’ll bet you’ve figured out by now that Kinda Eclectic is probably my favorite new stamp set in the annual catalog this year.  So I figured that it was the perfect set to scrapbook one of my favorite photos of my youngest child.

KE Scrapbook Close Up 1I started by layering some Typeset dsp, which I had painted with a layer of gesso, and some of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum behind the photo.  I wrinkled up a doily and layered some pretty ribbons as well.  The sentiment was stamped and embossed with white Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I added some stamping on the Crumb Cake page and some sequins.  And then I embellished with lots of butterflies.

This page was made for the convention display boards to show how once could use the Kinda Eclectic stamp set for scrapbooking.  Since this set is perfect for layering, it is a great set for scrapbooking.

Amazing Birthday Meets Project Life

AB Card 5I love how the Project Life card kits are not only perfect for scrapbooking but also for card making.  I made this card for the convention display boards and used the Amazing Birthday stamp set on it as well.

AB Card 5 Close Up

I love the colors in this Everyday Adventures card kit and accessory pack.  And I love how this stamp set seems to match everything in them so well.  I just got my pre-order from the Holiday catalog and I ordered the new holiday-themed Project Life card collection, Seasonal Snapshot.  It covers all of the Fall and Christmas holidays, and I am in love with the colors and patterns in it.  I can’t wait to dig into it.

Love Who You Are — FMS148

It’s time for another sketch for you over at the Freshly Made Sketches site!  And this week Jen Mitchell is our hostess.  I am always in awe of how she can make such clean designs look so beautiful.  She has a great sketch for us too:

I received a free stamp at convention.  It’s one of the single stamps and is called Love Who You Are.  I hadn’t used it yet, and I thought it would work well with this sketch.

Love Who You AreYou see those pretty orange sequins?  They’re a sneak peek of something that will be included in an upcoming My Paper Pumpkin kit.  The dsp is from the Confetti Celebration pack, and I thought the geometric pattern matched the stamp so well.

Love Who You Are Close UpI think I need a little help with the sentiment on this stamp though.  I have puzzled over exactly what it means.  It reminds me a little bit of a cognitive optical illusion.  When you look at this picture, what do you see?

Do you see a duck or do you see a bunny?  I can see both (I saw the duck first though, how about you?).  Well, I kinda feel this way about the sentiment in this stamp.  I can’t decide if it’s a command — it’s telling someone that they should love who they are, or is it saying (I) love who you are?  Sometimes I interpret it one way and sometimes I interpret it the other.  Help me out!  What do you think?

On to more important matters — we have a guest designer this month!  The fabulous Kim Singdahlsen will be with us for the month of August.  I always love everything she makes, and I’m thrilled to have her on board with us.  Be sure to stop by the Freshly Made Sketches site and give her some love.  And please play along with us this week and post your card in the gallery!  We love seeing what you make.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Glammed Up Birthday Card

AB Card 3Here’s another convention display board card for you using the Amazing Birthday stamp set.  I tried to glam it up a bit with touches of gold and black.

AB Card 3 Close UpI also used the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set for the black splatters.  The punched hearts were strung together by sewing them with my sewing machine.  The butterflies were punched from vellum card stock.

This isn’t my normal style, but every once in a while it’s kinda fun to get “messy.”  ha!

I’m Having a Garden Party — Monday Montage #25

Monday Montage Banner -- OctoberWe have another Monday Montage blog hop for you today.  There will be nine of us participating, so just follow the links at the bottom of each post to work your way through all of the blogs.  It will be worth your time!

The Garden Party to which my post’s title refers is the stamp set called Garden Party. This is a set that has been sitting on my shelf for a while but hasn’t seen any ink, so I decided that it was time for the stamp set to receives some love.  I decided to use the same limited supplies and colors (Crisp Cantaloupe, Strawberry Slush, and Coastal Cabana) and make two different cards.

Cantaloupe Garden PartyI used the Large Polka Dot embossing folder on both cards.  I love this thing!  Other supplies that I used on both cards include Strawberry Slush Thick Baker’s Twine, Sweet Sadie washi tape, and Project Life 4″ x 3″ Grid Cards.

Cantaloupe Garden Party Close UpTo make the smaller flowers, I took a sponge dauber and lightly inked it up with Strawberry Slush ink and “stamped” that on Whisper White card stock.  I then took the flower stamp and stamped over the circle made with the sponge dauber using Strawberry Slush ink.

Coastal Cabana Garden PartyI used the same technique on this card, but used Crisp Cantaloupe ink for the base layers of the flowers.  The sponge dauber fits inside this flower perfectly.

Coastal Cabana Garden Party Close UpI used the same sentiment stamp on both cards. On the first, I just colored in the “for you” with my Basic Black marker and stamped only that part of the sentiment.  You can get two totally separate uses out of this one sentiment that way.

You’re ready to hop on over to Breelin Renwick’s blog.  She always comes up with such beautiful and creative projects, so I know you’ll love her post.  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can venture over to Wendy Weixler’s post.  She is another master of creativity and fabulous ideas.  Either way, work your way through all of the posts.

An Eclectic Frame

KE 3d 1Here’s a picture frame I decorated using the Kinda Eclectic stamp set for the convention display boards.  I bought a plain wood frame from a big box store for $1.  I painted it white with some acrylic paint.  After it dried, I spritzed it with a mixture of Pool Party ink and rubbing alcohol a few times, until the color was as dark as I desired.

KE 3d 1 Close Up 1Once that was dry, I stamped on the frame and added some embellishments for decoration.

KE 3d 1 Close Up 2This was an easy project.  Now I need to make another one that I can keep.

Scrapbooking the Traditional Way with Project Life by Stampin’ Up!

In addition to the three convention sets we were given to make display board samples, we were also given some Project Life goodies to use.  Today I want to show you how can use Project Life products to scrapbook in a traditional way.

AB Scrapbook

I used some items from the Everyday Adventure Accessory Pack and Card Collection.  The accessory pack includes the epoxy stickers, banner stickers, and washi tape as well as many more items which I didn’t use here.

I also used some of the stamps from the Project Life Point & Click Stamp Set and some in-color sequins.  And I also added some crazy stitching with my sewing machine.

AB Scrapbook Close Up 4I used one of the stamps from Amazing Birthday for the title of the page.  Sometimes making a 12 x 12 page can be a little intimidating because you have so much space to fill.  But these little cards make it pretty easy.  They enable you to focus on one small space at a time, and everything coordinates.

So, what do you think?  Are you more of a traditional scrapbooker or do you like the new Project Life pocket-style of scrapbooking?  I like them both!

Rows of Hearts — FMS147

I’m taking a break today from convention display board samples because it’s Wednesday. And Wednesday means it’s time for a new challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week, the amazingly talented Jennifer Timko is our hostess, and she has a creative sketch for us.

When I first saw the sketch and its rows, I thought of a new punch I’ve barely used, the Hearts Border Punch.  When I realized that my hearts would be side-ways with this sketch, I decide to flip the sketch 90 degrees.

Rows of HeartsI also used the Hearts Decorative Mask and sponged some Whisper White ink over the mask on the bottom of the card.  I punched the little heart from Silver Glimmer Paper with the heart punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  The larger heart was cut with one of the framelits in the Hearts Collection.

Rows of Hearts Close Up

The stamped sentiment is from Pictogram Punches.  I used a color combo of Lost Lagoon, So Saffron, Calypso Coral, and Crumb Cake.

We hope you’ll join us and create your own card using the sketch.  Be sure to post it in the gallery, as we love to see what you make.  You can go check out what the design team made at the Freshly Made Sketches site for some inspiration.

A Hardwood Season

Another convention display board sample for you.  I hope you’re not getting tired of seeing the same three stamp sets.

The card today uses the new Seasonally Scattered stamp set which will be available in the upcoming Holiday catalog.  So you can consider this to be a sneak peek as well.

SS Card 1

Out of all my cards that I made for the display boards, I’d say this one is most “me.”  And I had to laugh when a couple of stamping friends saw it on the boards and asked me if I had made it — even they knew.

I stamped the background with the Hardwood background stamp and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I added some scallops and paper piercing and a big bow.

SS Card 1 Close Up

I think what I like most about this card is the color combination — Crumb Cake, So Saffron, Mossy Meadow, Cajun Craze, Island Indigo, and Very Vanilla.  I’ll definitely be using these colors together again.

A Bag and a Box

I have two more convention display board projects for you today.  One is a sack and the other is a box.  They both feature the Amazing Birthday stamp set.

AB 3d 2I used one of the Chevron Tag a Bag Gift Bags and then added a fun banner and embellishments.  I finally made a spiral flower using the Spiral Flower Originals die out of Hello Honey card stock.  I hot glued it on with some ribbon and sequin trim.

AB 3d 2 Close UpI also decorated one of the fry boxes, which I created with the Fry Box Bigz L die.  It is so easy to assemble, and it’s so fun to decorate.

AB 3d

I put some marbles in the cellophane bag, which of course coordinated with the fun Gold Soiree dsp. My daughter had a great time playing with the extra marbles.

AB 3d close upI love how versatile this stamp set is.  Even though it has birthday in its title, this set can really be used for so much more than birthdays.
