Hooray for Feathers

I made a little time to play with a new stamp set called A Happy Hooray yesterday.  It has some cute, shaped sentiments and it has a great feather image.  I thought these feathers would look so pretty embossed in gold, so that is the first thing I did.

Hooray for Feathers

I embossed the background with clear embossing powder and the Handcarved background stamp.  I know I’ve said this before, but I LOVE clear embossing on Very Vanilla card stock.

Hooray for Feathers Close UpI took advantage of the Buy 3, Get 1 Free dsp offer.  The dsp on this card is from the Back to Black package.

Geometric Wish — FMS144

There has been a flurry of stamping activity in my stamp room this past week.  Convention is only one week away, and I still have lots to do.  However, I had to take a break to make a card for this week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  Our talented friend from New Zealand, Karren Johnson, is our hostess this week and she has a very versatile one for us:

I decided I wanted to use some of the Confetti Celebration dsp, and the Arrows embossing folder coordinates with it so well, so I had to pull it out too.

Arrows and WishesI used the Perfect Pennants stamp set, and used a color combo of Strawberry Slush, Crushed Curry, and Bermuda Bay.

Arrows and Wishes Close UpYou can see what the other designers on the team made at the Freshly Made Sketches site. And we hope you’ll play along, and post your own creation to the gallery so we can admire your work.

Pictogram Punches X 2 — Monday Montage #23

Monday Montage Banner -- OctoberWe’re back with another Monday Montage blog hop for you.  There are ten of us participating, so just follow the links at the bottom of each post to see what everyone has in store for you this week.

One of the stamp sets that I love in the new annual catalog is Pictogram Punches.  I love the clean and simple style of it, and I love how it coordinates with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.

I made two cards using different stamps in the set, but using the same sketch and color scheme.

Pictogram StarI used a sheet of dsp from Confetti Celebration, and went with a color scheme of Strawberry Slush, Hello Honey, and Pool Party.

Pictogram Star Close UpThe little starburst accent comes from the Be the Star stamp set.

Pictogram HeartThis is basically the same card as the previous one, but I’ve used different stamps, and have gone with a heart theme instead of stars.

Pictogram Heart Close UpThe little hearts are from the photopolymer stamp set called Countless Sayings 2.

Well, you’re ready to hop on over to see Breelin Renwick’s gorgeous creations.  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can venture on to Wendy Weixler’s awesome work.  Either way, just keep clicking your way through all of the blogs.

Overwhelmed with Flower Patch’s Awesomeness

Overhwhelming Flower Patch

The sentiment on this card cracks me up!  But I know a few people of whom it’s appropriate.

I started this card by using some fiber paste with the Stripes Decorative Mask.  After I applied the fiber paste, I decided that I really should have mixed it with some Smoky Slate ink first.  So once the paste was dry, I put the mask back on the card and used a sponge dauber to apply the ink.  Different method, but similar results.

Overwhelming Flower Patch Close UpThe Flower Patch set and coordinating dies are so fun!  I love that there are so many different ways to build pretty flowers.  I used a color scheme of Strawberry Slush, Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe, Pool Party, So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, and Old Olive.

Enjoy your Saturday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Circles

Birthday CirclesHere’s a birthday card using the Amazing Birthday set.  I’m pretty good about remembering birthdays.  It’s getting the cards in the mail that I struggle with.  So the “surprise” on this card should really say, “Suprise — this card actually made it to you by your birthday.”  I don’t think I’d need to stock up on many of those though.

I used the color combo of Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Tangelo Twist.

Birthday Circles Close UpI used my Old Olive Blendabilities markers to color the rhinestones.  I love how easy it is to do that.  The dsp is from the Confetti Celebration package.

An Eclectic Collage — FMS143

Wednesday has arrived again, and that means it’s time for another challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  The super talented Cindy Lovell is our hostess this week, and I love the sketch she has designed for us.

I love making collage-style cards, and this sketch is perfect for that style.  Since my favorite collage-style stamp set right now is Kinda Eclectic (I think it’s my favorite overall stamp set right now too), I decided to pull it off the shelf.

Eclectic Soft SkyI went with a color scheme of Soft Sky, Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Island Indigo, and Wild Wasabi.  The dsp is from the All Abloom dsp stack and the Brights DSP stack.

The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts.

Eclectic Soft Sky Close UpWe hope you’ll play along with the challenge this week and share your card in the gallery.  Go by the Freshly Made Sketches site to see what the other designers made with the sketch for some inspiration — they are always inspiring.

Enjoy your Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Can’t Say Thanks Enough

I love a lot of the sentiments in the Lots of Thanks stamp set.  Sometimes it’s not enough to just say “thank you.”  That’s why I really love the stamp which I used on this card.

Can't Say Thanks EnoughI needed to mail this one, so I wanted to keep it nice and flat.  It really just has stamping, plus a little paper piercing on the side.

Can't Say Thanks Enough Close UpThe fun doodle-y borders are from the Boutique Borders stamp set.  I used Hello Honey, Strawberry Slush, and Bermuda Bay for the colors.

Enjoy your Tuesday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Back from Vacation and Busy Birthday Stars

You probably haven’t noticed because I scheduled a few posts for this blog while I was gone, but I’ve been on vacation for the past two weeks.  My parents took us on a fabulous vacation to Alaska.  We went on a cruise for seven days and then spent three days inland at Denali National Park and around Fairbanks.

We started by spending a day in Vancouver, which is such a beautiful city.  We went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and had so much fun.  There are lots of fun things to see and do there, but the highlight is the amazing suspension bridge which crosses the Capilano River.

Capilani Suspension BridgeThe view was incredible, but the bridge swayed a LOT — not for the faint of heart.  One of my kids wasn’t too excited when he figured out that we’d have to re-cross the bridge to get back to the car.  My youngest wanted to cross it over and over again.

Our cruise was beautiful.  I loved the beautiful scenery, which is SO different from where we are in Texas.   The weather for most of our trip in Alaska was rainy and cold.  We had some sunshine every now and then, but for the most part, it felt like winter to this Texas girl — temps in the 40s.  But we just bundled up and put on our rain coats and didn’t let the weather stop us from enjoying the beauty of Alaska.

Alaska Scenery 2

We were there for the Summer Solstice, and I knew before we went that summer days in Alaska are very long.  But I had no idea just how many hours of sunlight they get every day.  I don’t even think it ever got dark on some nights.
Alaska Scenery

We took a rafting trip outside of Juneau for one of our excursions.  Here’s a picture of us with a view of the Mendenhall glacier (it’s on the left side of the picture), which is where our raft departed.

rafting familyThere was a group of approximately thirty Santas on our trip.  And I mean the real kind of Santas — no fake beards or hair in this group.  They were attending a class taught by the International University of Santa Clause (I’m not making this up).

SantasThey were a fun group, and we all felt like we needed to be on our best behavior while they were around.  So what does Santa wear on one of the formal nights on the cruise?  Here’s my youngest with a Santa on formal night.

Santa with KendallSo when I got back and got through a mountain of laundry (two weeks of clothes for five people), I hurried to my stamp room.  I hadn’t stamped in two whole weeks!  It took me a while to to make a card again, but it felt so good.

Busy Birthday StarsMy dad has a birthday this week on July 4th, so I need to get this in the mail today.  There’s not a lot of stamping on this card, but the sentiment is from the photopolymer set, Endless Birthday Wishes.

Hello Darling Typeset

Darling NewsprintWhen I saw that some new newsprint dsp was being offered in the new catalog, I was so happy!  One of the techniques I love to use with it is painting a layer of gesso over it.  I just use a foam paintbrush and spread a light layer over the paper.  Once it dries (pretty quickly) I can stamp on it, or just leave it plain.  Either way, it adds a cool texture and mutes the dark black type a little.

Darling Newsprint Close UpI used Night of Navy, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon, and Old Olive inks for this card.  I also used some little scraps of Flowerpot dsp and Moonlight dsp.

Enjoy your Saturday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Hooray for Stars!

Hooray for StarsI had been wanting Stampin’ Up! to offer star framelits for so long, and now they finally have them!  And in typical Stampin’ Up! fashion, they offer a coordinating stamp set (Be the Star) and a coordinating paper-piercing pack.

Hooray for Stars Close UpI love using star images because they are so versatile.  They’re good for guys and girls, and they’re great for so many occasions.

The colors I’ve used here are Tangerine Tango (the Confetti Celebration dsp), Hello Honey, Coastal Cabana, and Pacific Point.

Enjoy your Tuesday!  Thanks for stopping by!
