Farewell to Artistic Etchings and Fan Fair DSP

Happy Sunday!  Sundays mean a new challenge at the Paper Players, and LeAnne has a great sketch challenge for us this week.

I decided to use the Artistic Etchings set, as it will be retiring this week.  I have loved this set and have gotten a lot of good use out of it.  I also used the retiring dsp, Fan Fair, which I’ve also loved.

Masculine Label — PP146

The super talented Ann Schach has a great challenge for us this week at the Paper Players.

I don’t know about you, but masculine cards never come easily for me.    I always struggle with making them.  I’m not sure I would exactly call this card masculine, but I wouldn’t call it feminine either.   I think it could easily pass for a guy’s card.  There is no ribbon, rhinestones, nor buttons.  The guys in my house think that those items disqualify a card from the masculine category automatically.

Masculine Label

I decided to go with a grungy look — well, this is about as grungy as I get.  I distressed the edges of the dsp and crumpled it up (which still seems wrong to me, but I just took a deep breath and did it).

Go take a look at what the rest of the team did with the challenge at the Paper Players, and then join us.

Enjoy your Sunday!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Trio of Silhouettes — PP145

Happy Mother’s Day, all you mothers out there!  I hope you are having a special day with those you love most.

It’s time for another color challenge at the Paper Players.  And this is what the ever-talented Jaydee has for us:

I must say that the current year’s in-colors and I are not the best of friends.  I’d say we’re merely acquaintances.  So wouldn’t you know that this is the second color challenge I’ve done in the past couple of days that features colors from this collection.  I guess that maybe I need to get to know them better.

Silhouette Trio

My first thought with these colors was to go a masculine route, but it seems like I’ve been suffering from a floral addiction lately, so I decided to go with the floral theme.  I hadn’t used my Summer Silhouettes set in a while, so I pulled it out and went with a CAS (Clean And Simple) look for today.

Come join us at the Paper Players this week, and check out what the other designers did with these colors:

A Theme for Mom — PP144

It’s all about Mom today at the Paper Players.

Now, I know that Mother’s Day is next Sunday, but for those of us who need to get a card in the mail pretty soon in order for Dear Mom to receive her card on time, it’s a good thing that Anne Marie Hile made this challenge for us today.

I was inspired by a picture of a beautiful shower curtain I saw in a Garnet Hill catalog recently.  I tore out the page and pasted it in my inspiration notebook.

The gray on this card is actually one of the new colors, Smoky Slate.  It’s such a pretty gray.  It almost looks silver on the white card stock.

I hope you can make time to join us in the challenge at the Paper Players this week.  You need a Mother’s Day card anyway, right?  Go check out what the other talented designers made:

Bird, Blossom, and Banners — PP143

The super talented Ann Schach has a great sketch for us today at the Paper Players.

I pulled out a neglected stamp set, Betsy’s Blossoms, which I am glad to see is not being retired next month.

Yikes!! A Single Layer Card — PP142

Jaydee has a great challenge for us over at The Paper Players.  And boy, was it ever a challenge for me.

I think I could count on one hand the number of times I have made a one-layer card.  😉  I really had to put some thought into this one.  I ended up pulling out my Stippled Blossoms stamp set because the flowers are so beautiful.

Floral One-Layer Sympathy

I scored two lines on this card, and used a black marker and a ruler to draw the lines over and under the sentiment.  I must say that I really enjoyed making this card.  I got to do a lot of stamping on it and that was fun.

Go check out what the other designers made for this challenge.  I was really impressed with their creations:

A Bloom with Burplap — PP141

The most talented Anne Marie has a pretty color challenge for us at the Paper Players today.

I must say that I was saddened to hear that Baja Breeze will be retiring in just a few more weeks.  I love that color!

Razzleberry Bloom

I pulled out a couple of products I hadn’t used in a while for this card — the Mixed Bunch stamp set and the Alhambra wheel.  Notice I didn’t use the This and That Epic Day dsp?  See, I do have some self-control.  🙂

Please join us in the challenge at the Paper Players.  Meanwhile, go check out what the other designers made with these fab colors:

A Recycled Butterfly

Today at the Paper Players Nance Leedy has a fun theme challenge for us:

I took a piece of the cardboard box from my last Stampin’ Up! order and ran it through my Big Shot with the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die.  I then peeled off the top layer of the cardboard to expose the ridges in the middle, and painted it with some white acrylic paint and then sprinkled on some Silver Glass Stampin’ Glitter.  I dyed a flower from the 5/8″ Flower Trim with some Pink Pirouette ink and adhered it to the center of the butterfly.

Recycled Butterfly

Here’s a test for you to see how observant you are.  I made a careless mistake on this card.  Can you figure out what I did wrong?  I didn’t even notice it until I was photographing the card.  You get a star for the day if you guessed that the text on the background dsp is upside down.  Ugggh!  I hate it when I do things like that, and unfortunately it isn’t a rare occurrence.  I’d already spent too much time on this card, and couldn’t face redoing it, so it is what is.

I hope you can join us in the challenge this week at the Paper Players.  I’d love to see what you recycle.  Want to see what the rest of the design team did?  You can check them out here:

A Spring Butterfly

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; he has risen!  Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: “The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.”  Luke 24:5-7

Happy Easter, everyone!  I love celebrating the resurrection of our Saviour.  I can’t think of a happier occasion nor a better reason to celebrate.  I hope you are spending the day with those you love most.

Today is also a day for a new challenge at the Paper Players.  Jaydee has a fun tic-tac-toe challenge for us this week.

I chose to go with the column on the left — Spring, Blue & Pink, and Ribbon.

Sping Butterfly -- PP139

I think I may have cheated a bit on this challenge.  When I picked the dsp for the butterfly, I thought it was a little more pink-ish.  However, once I paired it with the Rose Red card stock, I think it’s probably more red-ish (maybe that’s why it’s called Rose RED).    But by the time I figured this all out, I was finished with the card and had company on the way for the holiday weekend.  So I knew it would have to do.  I apologize, Jaydee, for not really following the rules — my intentions were good.

I sprinkled the flower with Dazzling Diamonds and added some rhinestones for sparkle.  I thought the butterfly went with the Spring theme of the challenge.  I’ve provided links to the other designers so you can check out what they did with the challenge.

Enjoy your Sunday, and have a blessed Easter!  Thanks for stopping by!

Celebrate with Balloons & Presents — PP138

Look what Anne Marie has for us today at the Paper Players — a fun sketch challenge!

I’ve been on a birthday card kick lately, so I pulled out a set I haven’t used in a while, Patterned Party.  I paper pieced the balloons and present, and pulled out my sewing machine to stitch around the edges of the card.
